Art Fundamentals:
Grade Level: 9th-12th
Prerequisites: none
Credit: 1/2, one semester
This is more of a textbook based art survey class with a lot of “hands on” studio work. Students are introduced to a variety of art mediums to get a feel of the different elements that are available in the art world. Students are introduced to artists, artworks, and art media through daily assignments and projects, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. The elements and principles of art are used to develop and understanding and appreciation of past and present works of art and to gain an understanding of how art is a part of our daily lives.
Art Studio:
Grade Level: 11th-12th
Prerequisites: Art Fundamentals, Drawing I, and permission of instructor.
Credit: 1/2, one semester
This class is designed for advanced art students, or those who truly have a genuine interest to work on improving their skills. Many art media will be used, and the work is more on an independent level. The course includes classroom projects, art videos, a semester project.
Ceramics:
Grade Level: 10th-12th
Prerequisites: Art Fundamentals, and permission of instructor.
Credit: 1/2, one semester
This class explores the use of clay in making pottery or other objects using the hand building methods (pinch, coil, slab). Students will learn ceramic terms, the use of glaze and other decorative techniques, and the function of the kiln will be introduced.
Drawing I & II:
Grade Level: 10th-12th
Prerequisites: Art Fundamentals, and permission of instructor.
Credit: 1/2, one semester
Provides an experience using a variety of drawing media- graphite sticks, pencils, pastels, watercolor pencil, pen and ink, and markers. The selection of drawing media may vary from year to year. This course includes classroom projects, art videos, and a semester project.
Painting I & II:
Grade Level: 10th-12th
Prerequisites: Art Fundamentals, Drawing I, and permission of instructor.
Credit: 1/2, one semester
This class introduces the use of painters tools and techniques while painting a variety of different subject matter in both acrylic and watercolor. This course includes several classroom projects and a semester final project.
