Health

Grade Level: 9th-10th Grade

Prerequisites: None

We will cover many different aspects of health education including, but not limited to the following topics: mental health, social health, human development, nutrition and fitness, substance abuse, preventing disease, and safety/first aid.



Physical Education

Grade Level: 9th-10th Grade

Prerequisites: None

In this required course, basic skills, fitness, and the understanding of rules and activities being undertaken are studied. Also, students will learn the importance of exercise and stretching while working towards a healthy and fit body.


 
Advanced Physical Education (Strength and Conditioning)

Grade Level: 11th-12th Grade

Prerequisites: Physical Education 

This class provides opportunities to continue and advance their strength and conditioning.  Students will be required to participate in strenuous cardiac and strength building activities.



Driver's Education

Grade Level: 9th-10th Grade

Prerequisites: None

Driver’s Education is arranged through public schools but taught at Lutheran High School.  Pleasant Plains School District will charge a fee equal to what they charge the students at Pleasant Plains High School.



Study Hall

Grade Level: 9th-12th Grade

Prerequisites: None

In lieu of a regular class, a time for supervised private study.  Music lessons may be arranged weekly during study hall with the student’s music teacher or one arranged by the school with payment between parent and teacher.




CACC (Capital Area Career Center)

Grade Level: 11th-12th Grade

Students desiring to participate in course work at the Capital Area Career Center on a half-day basis may seek information from the Guidance Director.  Students must be juniors or seniors and maintain “C” average work in classes at Lutheran High School.  The student’s home public school district must agree to pay for CACC tuition.



Aides

Grade Level: 9th-12th Grade


Aide positions are available for Languages, Math, Music, PE, Art, Computer Applications, and Science. An application is made through the instructor with approval needed by the Guidance Director. 



Life Skills I:

Grade Level: 11th-12th Grade

This semester course is designed to prepare students for “real world” situations. Students will develop an understanding of Christian vocation, practice personal financial strategies and consumer awareness, and will learn to prepare for living on their own through a variety of hands-on skill development such as automotive care, household cleaning and repairs and construction, basic cooking and sewing, as well as utilize Christian decision-making processes in preparation for college and the future. (Level: Junior/Senior)





Life Skills II:

Grade Level: 11th-12th Grade

This semester course is designed to prepare students for “real world” situations and may be taken as an extension of Life Skills I or as its own semester course. Students will develop Christian decision-making processes as they learn to set goals and prepare for a future career and become equipped to understand money management, investments, insurance, tax-preparation, and retirement planning as well as develop skills in purchasing a home, planning for children, managing household projects such as meal preparation, sewing and woodworking, all with a sense of living life in service to God and others. (Level: Junior/Senior)
