Donna Walters, M.A.

Foreign Language - Spanish

Donna has taught high school and college Spanish for many years, and she is very pleased to be teaching at Lutheran High School. Her B.A. degree in Spanish is from Illinois State University, and her M.A. is from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Springfield and its surrounding communities have been her home all of her life. The first 34 years of teaching were at South Fork High School in Kincaid and Taylorville High School, both in Christian County. Since retiring, she has taught for several teachers on leave in Rochester and Chatham and taught part-time at SHG for one year. Illinois College in Jacksonville was her Spanish teaching assignment for 8 ½ years. For several years during high school teaching, Donna also taught night classes for LLCC in both English and Spanish.

Donna is proud to be the mother of three adult children: two sons and a daughter. Her older son and his first wife brought my two grandchildren into the world, and now her grandson has fathered a son. Any questions about her handsome 3-year-old great-grandson will be happily answered! All family except my older son, who lives in Texas, live in, or fairly close to, Springfield.

During Donna's non-teaching time, she especially enjoys cross-stitching and reading mysteries. She has had the opportunity to travel to several countries within Central America, South America, Europe, and Asia. "If I were rich and really retired, I'd choose to live in Costa Rica, where I could absorb the friendly culture, year-round warm weather, and the splendor of its tropical forests. Instead, I'm blessed to share my knowledge and faith with my students right here in Central Illinois."

Donna's favorite Bible passage is from the 23rd chapter of Psalms. She believes God's comfort and promises of peace come from Psalms 23:

1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
