 Volleyball Update:

The Lady Crusaders traveled south to Troy to battle in the Triad tournament.  The girls won their pool by beating three, big 3A schools: Collinsville, Jerseyville, and Chatham Glenwood! The team then had to play in a crossover pool semi final to beat Triad 25-12, 25-18 to make it to the Championship game.   Facing a Top Four 2A team, the girls battled with a very good Nashville team.  Losing game 1, the girls battled and took game 2, 23-25.  They played hard, but couldn’t quite put the ball away against a big block and scrappy defense.  The girls lost, but claimed 2nd place in the tournament and have much to be proud of on a 4-1 weekend!

Soccer Update:

Who would win a battle between the Spartans and the Crusaders ? No, this is not a new video game or a History assignment, but was an actual soccer battle on Saturday. We found out the winner of this battle on the soccer field as The Crusaders came away with a 4-1 hard fought victory. Reece B. scored the first goal off an assist from Leo L. Duncan S. scored the second goal as LuHi went into halftime up 2-0. Landon S. scored off a beautiful free kick assist from Duncan. Reece scored our last goal off another Duncan assist.  LuHi returns to soccer action at home today at 5:00 vs. Beardstown, and will also host Pleasant Plains in the first game of regionals on Saturday. We need a big cheering section for both games. As always, thanks for your support.

The Lady Crusaders traveled to Plains last evening for a rematch of the County tournament.  The girls did not disappoint and came out with the game plan and executed flawlessly.  They took game 1, 25-19.  They maintained the lead in game 2, but Plains answered to take it to 3.  The girls were point for point in game 3 until Plains’ tough serving took us out of serve-recieve for a couple points which shifted the momentum.  The girls lost game 3, but seeing the improvement and passion elevate from Monday makes a coach proud.  Keep working ladies - these are the games that push our ability to its highest!

Thanks to ALL the amazing fans in our student section - you did not disappoint!  So proud of you and the class act that you are - supporting your fellow schoolmates!

 Soccer Update:

If you missed the soccer game, it’s hard to describe the great comeback by the Crusaders. The score was tied at 1 at halftime off an awesome header by Mason K. from a corner taken by Reece B. But LuHi went down 3-1 with just over 21 minutes left to play. These Crusaders never gave up and got a goal back by Landon S. off an assist from Reece.  Leo L. scored to tie the game at 3 off an assist from Duncan S. Lutheran had some great chances, but could not find another goal and the game ended in a tie 3-3. Come out to the field this afternoon at 4:00 to watch the game and join in honoring our seniors.

 Volleyball Update:

Volleyball traveled to Petersburg for a non-conference match-up with the BlueJays.  The freshmen came out taking game1, losing game 2, and finishing 10-11 in game 3 before time was called.  Great work, girls!

The JV team faced a very tough Porta team losing in 2.  We saw some good hustle plays, but Porta was a bit bigger at the net.

The varsity team came out in complete domination in game 1, but the BlueJays found some holes in the defense to take game 2.  With some adjustments and great play, the Saders took control of the 3rd game, and  even with a little fight by Porta in the end, it didn’t rattle the Saders and they won in 3.  The girls were led in kills by Makenna with 16, Kaleigh with 14, and Ali with 8.  The defense was incredible: Kaleigh had 30 digs, Makenna had 25, and Anna 21!! Caleina had 40 assists and Kaleigh had 9 aces on the night.

Today’s Activities:

Soccer @ Home vs. Mt. Pulaski - 4:00.  It’s Senior Night!!!  Come watch the game and then join the seniors in celebrating the hard work they’ve put in over their LuHi career!

Saturday’s Activities:

JV Volleyball at SHG Tournament.  LuHi’s first game is at 8:30am

Cross Country Invitational @ Petersburg - 10:00am

Soccer @ Home vs. Litchfield - 10:00am

This week’s Academic Spotlight shines on:

Freshman Rebecca A. in Religion for excellent class participation, behavior, and/or leadership, and consistent positive attitude and effort in class or on homework; and in PE for recording the fastest girls mile time in the Fitness testing.

Senior Abigail B. in Religion for excellent class participation, behavior, and/or leadership, and excellent academic performance with a high score on the first quiz of the year.

Junior Ethan T. in PE for recording the fastest boys mile time in the Fitness testing.

This week’s Athletic Spotlight shines on:

Junior Mason K. in soccer for great defense and 1 awesome header for a goal in a 3-3 draw.

The entire Varsity Volleyball team.  The girls are 9-0 and are winning every game because of the cohesiveness of the team.  Each girl shines at times, but the whole team deserves recognition this week!

Finally, in observance….

In the years since September 11th, 2001, this date has been officially designated, Patriots’ Day...a day to remember those who were killed or injured in the terrorist attacks on our country’s soil, a day when first responders and common men and women alike became heroes, and a day to remember all of those who have been involved in the War on Terror since that date.

Students, although none of you were even born on this dark day in our country’s history, you still feel the effects of 9/11, but you probably don’t even know it.  Take some time to talk with someone who is old enough to remember what happened...take some time today and tomorrow to lift up in prayer for those who were, and continue to be, affected by the tragedy...take some time to think about this day in our history which so changed our worldview.   This is a day for us to remind you, our next generation, to stay vigilant in defending our country, our liberty, and our way of life.

Each year on 9/11, we stand together, and proclaim, "never forget", and we thank our Lord because we are blessed to live in this land!!
